These vintage portraits of British criminals were taken at the Bedford Prison more than 150 years ago.

William Rose, 18, was arrested for stealing a coat, pants and three handkerchiefs. Records show that he had a bullet wound on the back of his neck. -

Henry James Green aka James Middleton, 23, sentenced to 4 years for stealing. -

William Moorhead, 22, was accused of stealing 8 stockings 10 and a calico shirt. -

John Jackson, 20, was sentenced 10 year for assault. -

William Jones was sentenced to 7 years in prison for stealing. -

Jane Green aka Elizabeth Locker, 20, was sentenced for 4 years for stealing what was described as a married stocking weaver with a "very long face". -

Catherine May, 26, was sentenced to 3 years for stealing a purse. She died 5 months into her prison term. -

John Robinson, was sentenced for stealing. -

Thomas Jenkins, 39, was arrested for refusing to give evidence in a case. -
19.
William Doyle, 17, was sentenced to 6 years in prison for setting a stack of wheat on fire. He was described as not being able to read or write, and having a pale complexion. -
20.
Joseph Blagdon, was arrested for begging. Records state that he had burn marks on his right arm, forehead and nose. -
21.
William Dazley, 27, charged with stealing. He was an Ironmonger's assistant, who was described as having sandy hair, a brown birth mark on his left shoulder and a scar on his upper foot. -
22.
Daniel Burke aka John Watson from Whitechapel was sent to prison February 4th, 1861. -
